Submit Your Resignation, Mr. President: Artsakh Parliament Speaker Addresses Arayik Harutyunyan
The Speaker of the Artsakh Parliament, Arthur Tovmasyan, made a statement during the regular session of the Parliament:
“Dear compatriots, I want to address President of the Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, with a request, a call, an urging plea. You know that I have participated in all the rallies to which I have been invited, including the last one. Mr. President, I have never interfered in your affairs, and you have not interfered in those of the National Assembly.
I have proposed a model, which is not just an amorphous body but one that saved us in the 1990s – the State Defense Committee. I have suggested including two persons in that structure: Ruben Vardanyan and Samvel Babayan. I do not know their opinion; it is very possible that they will refuse. Why? Do not ask questions.
Mr. President, if that model does not work, I may cause pain to someone for the first time. Submit your resignation, Mr. President, or put your trust to a referendum. If the people do not trust that you were elected, then you will leave. However, that does not mean that in the case of your resignation, Arthur Tovmasyan will be the acting president of the country. If the people do not trust you, I will also leave.”
