Erdogan Declares Record Turnout in Turkey's Presidential Elections

The participation in the first round of Turkey’s presidential elections was approximately 90%, which is considered a record, stated President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“I would like to thank all our citizens for participating in the elections under democratic conditions with a record turnout of nearly 90%,” he said, according to CNN Turk.

Erdogan noted that preparations for the second round of voting have already begun. Earlier, the head of Turkey’s Central Election Commission, Ahmet Yener, announced that the second round of the presidential elections will take place on May 28.

On the morning of May 15, it was reported that the current president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had secured 49.35% of the votes after processing 100% of the ballots, while his competitor, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, garnered 45%.
