Turkish Candidate Sinan Oğan, Who Lost, Reveals Conditions for Supporting Erdoğan or Kılıçdaroğlu
Sinan Oğan, the candidate from the ATA alliance, who received 5.17% of the votes in the first round of Turkey's presidential elections, has announced that he is ready to support either President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan or his rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the second round, in exchange for certain promises to address specific issues.
"We have certain preconditions," Oğan stated, as reported by Daily Sabah, citing the defeated presidential candidate. Specifically, according to Oğan, for the ATA alliance to provide support, they require a commitment to uphold constitutional guarantees prioritizing secular principles in the country. Additionally, the winner of the elections should lead the fight against terrorism and ensure the return of Syrian and other refugees to their homeland.
It was previously announced that the second round of Turkey's presidential elections will take place on May 28. With 99.87% of the votes counted, Erdoğan has received 49.5%, while his competitor Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has garnered 44.89%.
