Weightlifting European Championship 101st Edition: First Medalists Announced
On the first competition day of the European Weightlifting Championship 101st edition, held at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, athletes in the women's 45 kg and 49 kg weight categories took to the stage.
In the 45 kg category, the Turkish weightlifter Cansu Bektaş secured first place with lifts of 72 kg in the snatch and 90 kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 162 kg in the overall. Romanian Cosmina Pană followed in second place with a clean and jerk total of 153 kg, while Spanish athlete Marta García rounded out the top three with an identical total of 153 kg.
The competition also featured the women in the 49 kg category, where Romanian representative Valentina Câmpeanu made history by winning gold with a new European record, lifting a total of 195 kg. Italian Zulja Imperion claimed second place with a total of 183 kg, while Ukrainian Anhelina Lomachytska finished third with a total of 176 kg.
