Azerbaijani Athletes Are Returning Home
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan and the National Olympic Committee of the country have jointly issued a statement. According to APA, the statement indicates that a decision has been made for Azerbaijani athletes to return to Azerbaijan from Yerevan.
It is noteworthy that just the day before, during the opening of the European Weightlifting Championship at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, when the Azerbaijani flag was brought on stage during the flag parade, Armenian designer Aram Nikoglyan ran to the stage, snatched the Azerbaijani flag, and burned it in front of the audience.
Security personnel apprehended Aram, who was later arrested. However, Nikoglyan was released shortly after. It should be noted that the European Weightlifting Championship involves 389 athletes from 40 countries and will take place from April 15 to 23.
