Azerbaijan's Aliyev: France's Unjust and Negative Attitude Towards Azerbaijan is Not Accidental
Recently, it was reported that Azerbaijan's authoritarian leader Ilham Aliyev has appointed a special representative for the Berdzor (Lachin) region. During a meeting with this representative, he stated that France's "unjust" and negative attitude towards Azerbaijan is not accidental.
"I must particularly note that during the years of negotiations, the mediators have always shown some special approach towards the Lachin region, and Armenia has generally deemed the return of the Lachin region to Azerbaijan unacceptable, even though they were not prepared to leave other regions as well," he remarked.
While discussing international mediators, Aliyev again refuted the existence of the OSCE Minsk Group and expressed several complaints. "International mediators, the OSCE Minsk Group, during negotiations, were essentially trying to reinforce that occupation. Now everything has become clear. France's unjust and negative attitude towards Azerbaijan is not accidental; they simply wanted to somehow cover up the occupation, in other words, to confuse us. But look, in the two and a half years since the end of the war—since the Second Karabakh War—what dirty actions have been taken against us, what unfounded accusations have been made. That is to say, all this is obvious, including the series of resolutions adopted by the European Parliament against Azerbaijan, which again are the result of the activities of an anti-Azerbaijani, pro-Armenian, and corrupt group, where French parliament members play a leading role. Naturally, we felt this during the period of occupation, but not to that extent. We could hardly imagine that countries could be so hypocritical and deceitful," stated Aliyev.
It is worth reminding that since December 12 of last year, activists supported by the Azerbaijani authorities have unlawfully blocked the Lachin corridor. In addition to ignoring the condemnations from numerous international figures, countries, and various organizations, Baku continues to subject the 120,000 residents of Artsakh to humanitarian disaster.
