Prague Exhausts Its Capacity to Support Ukraine, Says Czech President

Prague has provided significant assistance to Ukraine regarding arms supplies, but it no longer has new options for support. This was stated by the country's president, Petr Pavel.

“Czechia has helped Ukraine as much as possible in arms supplies, but it no longer has this possibility,” said the head of state in an interview with the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.

According to him, Czechia has certain capabilities in the field of air defense and ammunition production; however, this could be problematic due to a shortage of labor amidst the currently low unemployment rate in the republic.

As a solution to the existing situation, Pavel suggested recruiting workers from Ukraine.

Additionally, the Czech leader approved the German authorities' decision to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv, emphasizing that it “opens doors for all other countries.” He also noted that Ukraine needs armored vehicles, artillery, ammunition, and air defense systems for a “successful offensive.”

Furthermore, Pavel pointed out that MiG-29 fighters, which Poland and Slovakia plan to transfer to Kyiv, would also be helpful. The Czech president stated that “every aircraft matters.” He clarified that providing Western fighters would be a logical step, but in the long term. In his opinion, this year will be decisive for the development of the conflict in Ukraine.
