Russia Deploys Bastion Missile Systems in the Kuril Islands
Russia has deployed a coastal missile unit equipped with Bastion systems on one of the Kuril Islands, specifically in Paramushir, according to Reuters.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated that this is another step to strengthen the country's defense in the Far Eastern region. Shoigu mentioned that the Bastion system will enhance Russia's security around the chain of Kuril Islands.
Additionally, the minister assured that the modernization of Moscow's air defense system would be completed within this year. He made this statement during a council meeting of the defense department.
“Developing air and space forces and transferring new systems to the army are our priorities. This year we will completely finish the modernization of Moscow's air defense system,” Shoigu emphasized.
He also reported that during the Ukrainian conflict, Russian aerospace forces have destroyed over 20,000 Ukrainian military targets.
