Yerevan Deputy Mayor Gevorg Simonyan Arrested for Two Months
Yerevan Deputy Mayor Gevorg Simonyan has been arrested for two months following a court decision. This information was shared with Auroranews by the spokesperson of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Marina Ohanyan.
Simonyan served as the Deputy Minister of Health from February 2020 to 2022. According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, Simonyan failed to exercise adequate supervision over public funding distribution, which led to Babken Shahumyan embezzling around 120 million drams.
Law enforcement authorities stated that the responsible parties did not cross-reference the false data provided by the “Medline” clinic regarding the patients with the actual health conditions of those patients, leading to discrepancies being unrecorded.
It is noteworthy that Gevorg Simonyan, along with ten others, has been arrested. Additionally, the founder and director of “Medline Clinic” has also been detained, and the head of the “National Center of Oncology” branch, L. E., is under house arrest as a precautionary measure.
