Turkey Reports Number of Foreign Casualties from Earthquake
More than 6,600 foreign nationals have reportedly died as a result of earthquakes in Turkey, predominantly Syrians, with the total number of casualties reaching 48,400. This was announced on Monday by Suleyman Soylu, the head of Turkey's Ministry of Interior. The information was provided by TASS.
"As of now, there are 48,448 confirmed fatalities, with the number of foreign casualties being 6,660, mainly our Syrian brothers and sisters," he stated at a press conference.
Soylu noted that the republic's authorities plan to establish container cities in the affected regions, which will be able to accommodate over 115,500 families.
Turkey's Kahramanmaras province was struck by two devastating earthquakes on February 6, registering magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6. The subsequent aftershocks were felt across 11 provinces in the republic and neighboring countries, with Syria being the most heavily impacted.
