Russia and Belarus Sign Memorandum on Gas Pricing

Russia and Belarus have signed a memorandum that regulates the pricing of gas supply and its transit through the Republic from August 1, 2022, until December 31, 2025, inclusive. The document was signed by the energy ministers of Russia and Belarus, Nikolai Shulginov and Viktor Karankevich, as reported by Interfax.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the parallel operation of the energy systems of Russia and Belarus. Currently, intergovernmental negotiations are underway to coordinate a draft memorandum regarding certain measures that will ensure their parallel operations. The ministers paid special attention to the implementation of the program for the formation of a unified gas market of the Union State.

“The cooperation between Russia and Belarus remains an unchanged strategic partnership, with years of constructive interaction. We maintain constant contact with the Belarusian side at various levels. We are working together to smooth out the impact of Western sanctions on Belarusian enterprises, including in the energy sector,” the statement said.

It was previously reported that the price of Russian gas for Belarus has been agreed at the levels calculated in rubles for the years 2023-2025. Since April 2022, Belarus has switched to payments for gas in Russian rubles after the signing of another annual contract at the end of 2021 for the supply of gas at a price of $128.52 per 1,000 cubic meters.
