Pashinyan Discusses Standards for Issuing Driver's Licenses

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the Police Department to discuss the agency's 2022 activity report as well as upcoming steps regarding the newly established Ministry of Internal Affairs. The meeting included Deputy Prime Ministers Mher Grigoryan and Tigran Khachatryan, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan, Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan, Head of the State Oversight Service Romanos Petrosyan, other officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police.

It was reported that the number of road traffic accidents in the Republic decreased in 2022. Specifically, 4,308 road traffic accidents were recorded last year, resulting in 321 fatalities and 6,153 injuries. Compared to 2021, the number of accidents decreased by 296, the number of deaths by 47, and the number of injured by 546. It was noted that this is the first time in recent years that there has been a reduction in the number of road traffic accidents.

Pashinyan instructed to continue and expand all measures that contribute to the reduction of road accidents. In this context, the improvement of the points system and raising the standards for issuing driver's licenses were highlighted. “We need to significantly raise the standards for issuing driver's licenses in accordance with international standards. We must exclude the cases where anyone who should not receive a driver’s license somehow obtains one. We are talking about human lives. The measures being implemented should have significant preventive significance against road traffic accidents,” emphasized the Prime Minister.

Speaking about the deployment of police patrol services in the regions, Nikol Pashinyan instructed to actively implement measures aimed at expanding women's involvement.
