British Intelligence on the Russian Military
According to British intelligence, the reshuffling within the Russian army indicates failures on the part of the Kremlin, reports the BBC Russian Service.
The British intelligence suggests that Wednesday's reshuffle among Russia's top military command demonstrates that the Kremlin is aware of how disastrous their military campaign has become.
The changes are likely to provoke serious discontent among extreme nationalists and 'military correspondents' who had blamed Gerasimov for military failures, while the recently removed Sergey Surovikin was enjoying broad support from them.
It is noteworthy that yesterday, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu appointed Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov as the commander of the joint group of forces. This position was previously held by Sergey Surovikin, who has now become Gerasimov's deputy.
