Working Group Established in Azerbaijan Regarding the Return of Expelled Individuals from Armenia
A working group has been established in Azerbaijan to address issues related to the return of Azerbaijanis who lived in what is referred to as "Western Azerbaijan." This was announced by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a press conference.
In various speeches over the years, the Azerbaijani president has repeatedly claimed that present-day Armenia is "ancient Azerbaijani land", particularly mentioning the regions of Syunik, Yerevan, and Sevan, stressing that they are currently "not Azerbaijani due to historical injustice."
By referring to "Western Azerbaijan," he means the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
