VIDEO: The Situation is Fragile - Mirzoyan on the Closure of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijanis
The closure of the Lachin corridor would be a gross violation of the statement made on November 9, stated Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, in the National Assembly. He mentioned that as a result of negotiations with the Russian peacekeepers, the issue was resolved quickly.
“I believe that the parties can only express grievances or proposals and demands towards each other within the framework of the agreements that have been reached and recorded by all sides. The situation is fragile, the issues are not regulated, and presenting new demands could lead to escalation of the situation—whether intentionally or not is a matter of interpretation,” said the Armenian Foreign Minister.
Ararat Mirzoyan also stated that Armenia has no armed formations in the Artsakh region. “The name of the Defence Army itself suggests that the army's mission is to protect the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, and this is needed now more than ever. The population of Nagorno-Karabakh is still facing gunfire, subjected to various pressures, and has their gas supply cut off. When the threat of ethnic cleansing against the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh is lifted, then I believe they will be able to discuss possible other scenarios. At this moment, we can state that there is an existential threat,” remarked Ararat Mirzoyan.
