What is the main purpose of today's trilateral meeting? Putin elaborates
Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, stated that the aim of today’s trilateral meeting in Sochi is to implement the agreements reached in 2020 and 2021 regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
The leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are set to hold a trilateral meeting today in Sochi. Putin has already had bilateral meetings with each of them.
Russian media suggests that a document may be adopted at the end of the trilateral meeting, which could serve as a basis for signing a peace treaty.
“In my opinion, the meeting is of significant importance. As I see it, the goal of this meeting is to ensure the implementation of the agreements reached in 2020 and 2021,” said Putin.
Aliyev, for his part, expressed gratitude to Putin for his role in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “This meeting is dedicated to regional issues. I want to express gratitude for the role you have played in solving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Two years ago, the trilateral statement was signed, which ended a long-standing conflict. Now is the time for the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We highly appreciate your personal involvement in this matter,” said Aliyev.
