Taiwan Upset by Putin's Statements, Ministry Issues 'Decisive Protest'
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan considers its country to be sovereign and issues a 'decisive protest' regarding remarks made by Russian President Vladimir Putin about the island's status. This information has been reported on the ministry's website.
According to the ministry's response, "The Chinese Communist regime has never governed Taiwan for a single day and has no sovereignty over Taiwan. The future of Taiwan should be determined by its 23.5 million residents, and the Taiwanese government and people will not yield to the military, political, and economic coercion of China's totalitarian government."
At the same time, Taiwan is confident that Moscow is deliberately using the Taiwan issue as a pretext to confuse the international audience and distract attention from the conflict in Ukraine. Taipei has also promised to continue supporting Ukraine and aiding the Ukrainian people.
It is worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated during a plenary session of the "Valdai" International Discussion Club that Russia views Taiwan as an inseparable part of the PRC, and cited U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to the island as a provocation.
