Iranian President on the Ongoing Uprising in the Country
Iran must respond firmly to the protests occurring in the country following the death of Mahsa Amini, who was detained by police. This was stated by President Ebrahim Raisi, according to Reuters.
The agency notes that the country is experiencing some of the largest protests in recent years. It has been reported that the Iranian leader emphasized the need to distinguish protests from breaches of public order and safety. He referred to the ongoing events in the country as an uprising.
In this context, he promised to "deal with those who disrupt the security and tranquility of the country." According to local television reports, at least 41 people have died during the unrest.
It is noted that protests are taking place in many provinces of Iran. It is worth recalling that 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was taken into police custody for improper hijab wearing, where she died. This led to mass protests across the country.
