What Erdogan Proposed Regarding the Suspension of the Mir Payment System
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has instructed government members to develop an alternative to the Russian "Mir" payment system in collaboration with Moscow, reports A Haber news channel's correspondent.
"Negotiations with the Russian side have been conducted at the ministerial level by the relevant authorities. In the coming hours, Erdogan will hold discussions on this topic," media reports indicate.
What alternatives Moscow and Ankara are considering is not specified.
Last Monday, several Turkish banks informed RIA Novosti that they were stopping service of Mir cards due to anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the USA and Great Britain.
Erdogan stated that a decision would be made on Friday regarding the continued use of Russian bank cards in the country.
The Russian payment system also clarified that the acceptance of Mir cards abroad depends, in particular, on the position of the banks.
