Finland, Sweden, and Turkey Sign Joint Memorandum
Finland, Sweden, and Turkey have signed a joint memorandum as a result of negotiations held in Madrid. This was reported by the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
It was noted that the meeting between the presidents of Turkey and Finland, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Sauli Niinistö, and the Prime Minister of Sweden, Magdalena Andersson, lasted longer than planned—two hours—and has given hope for progress in stalled talks. Additionally, it was reported that the parties are drafting a joint document, although it remains unclear whether this will be a simple declaration or a formal memorandum.
According to the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti, this document may include clauses regarding the parties’ commitment to combating terrorism, as well as certain points that may alleviate Turkey's concerns.
