Samvel Babayan Seeks New Concessions from the Authorities
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports: "Yesterday, the opposition factions of Artsakh gathered 9 signatures from lawmakers and submitted a request to the National Assembly for the formation of an investigative committee. Samvel Babayan's "United Homeland" faction added 1 more member to the 8 lawmakers.
However, after submitting the request, according to our information, the ruling "Free Homeland" and "United Homeland" lawmakers began to exert pressure on their colleague to withdraw their signature.
The regulations law states that there is a 3-day period; if the lawmaker does not withdraw the request, the committee will be formed by force of law and will be headed by Davit Galstyan, the head of the "Justice" faction. The investigative committee will examine the activities of the Agricultural and Investment Funds, about which legends circulate in Artsakh regarding the corruption schemes they operate under.
It is noteworthy that Babayan's party has changed its political course; instead of Arayik Harutyunyan's close associate Bagunts, Marcel Petrosyan has become the faction leader, which indicates some deviation from the ruling line. Samvel Babayan is looking to extract new concessions from the authorities.
