Israeli Prime Minister Announces Dissolution of Parliament

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has announced that he has done everything possible to maintain his government but admitted that the decision to dissolve the Knesset (parliament) and hold elections next week is the right decision for Israel. He made the statement during a special address in parliament broadcasted by all major Israeli television channels, reports TASS.

“We have done everything possible to save the government; we have turned over every stone. The decision to dissolve the parliament is the right decision for Israel. Under the rotation agreement, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will lead the cabinet according to the procedures defined by the coalition agreement,” he said.

The head of the government added that he would “do everything to ensure Lapid’s success.” Lapid, in turn, thanked Bennett for “putting the country above personal interests.”
