US to Allocate $35 Million to Strengthen Georgia's Military

The United States plans to allocate $35 million to bolster Georgia's defense capabilities. This was reported on April 27 by the Georgian service of Voice of America, citing a letter received from the U.S. State Department.

“Georgia will receive $35 million, which includes a complete set of equipment for a brigade, a system for countering unmanned aerial vehicles, a tactical data system for forward field artillery, and cyber defense capabilities,” the statement said. The State Department sent the relevant letter to the U.S. Congress on April 24.

The purpose of the allocated funds is to assist NATO allies in replenishing the arms they have provided to Ukraine on a grant basis. Georgia and the United States have been cooperating since 1992 in the fields of politics, economy, and trade, and since the late 1990s in defense and security. In January 2009, a Charter on Strategic Partnership between the two countries was formalized in Washington, which aims to develop cooperation in security, defense, trade, economy, culture, and humanitarian fields, as reported by TASS.
