Six Months After the Law Comes Into Effect, Online Betting via E-Wallets Will Also Be Banned: Papoyan

The National Assembly of Armenia is discussing a legislative bill proposed by the members of the 'Civil Contract' faction, which aims to prohibit cash betting, including through payment terminals. Furthermore, six months after the law comes into effect, online betting via e-wallets will also be banned.

During the discussion of the law, ruling faction member Gevorg Papoyan stated: 'When we talk about bank accounts, it's mandatory for an individual to be an adult to have a bookmaker account. On the other hand, there is a certain age threshold for holding a bank account, which means that the participation of minors will not be possible. If they bet using their parents' card accounts, it will be manageable.'

In response to Sergei Bagratyan's inquiry about tools to prevent citizens from placing bets in cash on credit, Papoyan said: 'If we eliminate cash, there will naturally be no cash betting in this case either. Moreover, I would say that after the adoption of this bill, the so-called bookmaker offices that aim to accept cash bets will be shut down. Now, if cash betting is banned, most of these offices will close because their existence will become meaningless.'
