Former Probation Officer Accused of Embezzling 9 Million Drams
According to the Armenian National Anti-Corruption Committee, a criminal case has been initiated revealing that between 2016 and 2024, a person holding the positions of chief and senior specialists at the Ararat regional body of the Ministry of Justice's probation service, manipulated their official authority and influence to receive a salary and associated payments for 597 days without legal justification or fulfilling job responsibilities, thereby embezzling a substantial amount totaling 9,051,470 AMD through fraudulent means.
The investigation also established that individuals occupying the positions of heads of the probation service's Ararat regional body abused their official powers by failing to take measures to record the absence of the aforementioned employee, resulting in significant property damage to the state.
The probation officer has been charged under part 3 of point 3 of Article 255 of the RA Criminal Code, while the heads of departments are charged under part 2 of point 2 and part 1 of Article 441 of the RA Criminal Code. The damages caused by the crime, amounting to 9,051,470 AMD, have been fully recovered.
The pre-trial investigation has concluded, and the case materials have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of the Republic of Armenia with an accusatory conclusion.
Notice: A person accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia through a court judgment that has entered into legal force.
