Referendum on Leaving EAEU is a False Agenda: Khandanian
Deputy of the National Assembly from the ‘Civil Contract’ faction and Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Foreign Relations, Sargis Khandanian, addressed reporters regarding the referendum on remaining in the EAEU. He stated that it is a false agenda.
“It has been mentioned multiple times that there cannot be a referendum on an issue that simply does not exist. This has not been discussed in Armenia and no actions have been taken regarding the application for EU membership. Regarding our membership in the EAEU, Armenia participated in the intergovernmental council meeting and presented our position,” he noted.
He also emphasized that Armenia is a full-fledged member of the EAEU and has rights. “We are not planning to enter a confrontation phase on this issue. If Armenia ultimately makes a decision to apply for EU membership, a referendum will need to be held; at that time, membership in both will become impossible, and Armenia will leave one of them by its own will,” he added.
