Anna Mkrtchyan's Father Arrested: Illegal Sale of Land Worth 228 Million AMD in Kasakh

The Investigative Committee has obtained factual data regarding the illegal activities of Ara Mkrtchyan, the former head of the Kasakh community in Kotayk Province and the father of Anna Mkrtchyan, a member of the National Assembly from the "Honorary Serve" faction, along with former employees of the community administration.

By court decision, Ara Mkrtchyan has been arrested for one month.

According to the Investigative Committee, Ara Mkrtchyan, who held the position of head of the Kasakh community from 1996 to 2021, in preliminary agreement with his nephew, N. M., the secretary of the community administration, employees, and members of the auction committee, organized non-existent auctions between 2016 and 2019.

Through the preparation of official forged documents, approximately 28 parcels of land with a total market value of around 228 million AMD, belonging to the community, were sold as if they were awarded to the individuals declared winners in those auctions. As a result, the Kasakh community suffered significant damages, and the lands were unlawfully removed from the community fund.

A public criminal prosecution has been initiated against Ara Mkrtchyan and five former employees of the community administration on 28 episodes for exceeding official powers (under Article 309, part 1 and 3 of the former Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia) and for official forgery (under Article 314, part 1).

Six individuals involved in the case had been arrested, after which the court granted the petition to arrest Ara Mkrtchyan.
