UEFA President on Breaking Contract with Gazprom: 'It Cost Us Dearly'
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has commented on the decision to break the contract with Gazprom.
“It was the right decision. Financially, of course, it cost us dearly and hit our pockets. Before making that decision, I warned the Russian Football Union. I don’t do anything in secret. When signing the contract, would it be fair to see where the money is coming from? Viewing the issue from that perspective is populism. It’s easy for politicians to shout. They were asking us to break ties with Gazprom before they even decided to impose sanctions against Russia. Meanwhile, Europe continues to buy Russian gas,” Čeferin was quoted as saying by Corriere Della Sera.
