We Request Legal Guarantees of Ukraine's Security: Zelensky's Interview with CNN
CNN correspondent Matthew Chance reported that he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a "secret location in central Kyiv," according to Дождь. The President of Ukraine referred to Russia's actions in the country as a "full-scale war."
"I said that Ukraine will fight, but we cannot do it alone," Zelensky stated. He reminded that he had warned Europe that sanctions should be imposed preventively, and that if Russia is not stopped, its troops could be on the borders of Lithuania, Poland, and other NATO countries, and there would also be "provocations."
Zelensky also spoke about missile strikes in the Kharkiv direction. "Today, Kharkiv was simply bombarded with two cruise missiles. In official statements, the Ministry of Defense said that there would be missile strikes against Ukraine. This is just 200 meters away from St. Sophia's Cathedral. Therefore, we are asking to close the sky and impose sanctions against Russia," he said.
"We are asking for legal guarantees of Ukraine's security. This is territorial integrity; this is when our borders are protected, and our security is legally ensured," Zelensky emphasized.
Additionally, Zelensky discussed the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. "They [Russia] have decided to start talking about this situation, and I really want that. Everyone must stop fighting and return to the point where it all started six days ago. If [they] do this, then they are ready. If they are not ready, then it is simply a waste of time." In response to a journalist's question about whether he believes time is being wasted or if they are ready, Zelensky replied, "We'll see."
