Tragic Car Accident in Tavush Province: One of the Two Victims is a Child
On February 12, a major and tragic car accident occurred in Tavush Province. Around 07:30, the Ministry of Emergency Situations received a distress call reporting that a vehicle had fallen into a gorge on the Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan highway, at the 85 km mark, in the Dilijan serpentine area. According to reports, there are casualties.
Photographer Gagik Shamshyan, who is on-site, reports that divers from Lake Sevan and road police have been able to retrieve the bodies of a man aged around 70 and a boy aged 12-15 from the gorge with great difficulty using ropes. Medical personnel from Sevan Hospital quickly arrived to assist, transporting the bodies of the deceased to the morgue.
Doctors from Dilijan provided initial medical aid to two of the injured on-site before transferring them to the Dilijan Medical Center.
According to the photojournalist, it has been determined that a Mercedes vehicle, while traveling towards Dilijan, deviated into the opposite lane, collided with iron guardrails, knocked them down, and ended up in the forest, breaking several thick trees.
The bodies of the deceased were found outside the vehicle. The police and investigative department are working to identify the driver, the deceased, and the injured.
