Contraband Drugs and Items Discovered on Prison Staff Member
On January 15, 2023, around 09:20 AM, employees of the Armenian Ministry of Justice's 'Armavir' penitentiary conducted searches of several officers within the facility based on operational intelligence.
During these operations, one of the officers under inspection attempted to discreetly hide contraband items in a storage unit, but was unable to complete the action, and the items in question were confiscated.
The search revealed that the aforementioned officer had attempted to conceal three mobile phones and a package containing greenish, tightly wrapped substances resembling marijuana, totaling 56 grams in weight. The officer verbally stated that the items were intended to be delivered to one of the inmates in exchange for money.
A forensic examination has been ordered. Materials related to the incident have been transferred to the Anti-Corruption Committee, and the individual suspected of committing the crime has been arrested, with an investigation underway.
