Green Card Holders Stage Protest
Green Card holders are staging a protest outside the U.S. Embassy. Initially, the protesters gathered near the Admiral Isakov statue with dozens of placards and U.S. flags, before moving towards the embassy.
The demonstrators stated that they obtained their Green Cards in May 2021 but have been entangled in bureaucratic delays for an extended period. They want to understand why the U.S. Embassy in Armenia has not invited them for interviews.
Participants of the protest are concerned that if they do not participate in the interview phase by September 30, they will automatically lose their opportunity to travel to the U.S. “2066 citizens have received Green Cards, but only 4 have been called for interviews. Why are Iranian citizens being invited for interviews while we are not? What is the reason? We are holding this peaceful gathering simply because we do not want to lose this opportunity,” said one of the protesters.
Another protester mentioned that the embassy has cited COVID-19 as the reason for not organizing interviews. This argument did not convince the demonstrators, who emphasize that Armenia is currently in the green zone, making such justifications baseless.
The protest participants noted that the U.S. Embassy in Armenia is aware of their protest. The gathered crowd hopes that their voice will be heard.
