Why the Position of the Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party Was Abolished
The newspaper "Iravunk" reports: "The main intrigue of the 17th congress of the Republican Party was perhaps the election of the new executive body of the party. It turned out that the former Minister of Defense and First Deputy Chairman of the RPA, Vigen Sargsyan, the former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the fifth convocation and former Chairman of the Women's Council, Hermine Naghdalyan, former MP Karen Karapetyan (Tashir), former Minister of Transport and Communications Gagik Beglaryan, and former Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan were left out of the leadership of the Republican Party. In their place, the new members of the executive body of the RPA will include MPs from the "I Have Honor" parliamentary group: Hayk Mamijanyan, Tigran Abrahamyan, Anna Mkrtchyan, former RPA MPs Margarita Yesayan and Karine Ajemian, who also heads the RPA Women’s Council, as well as former Deputy Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly for the fifth convocation Artak Zakaryan.
It is noteworthy that among the newly elected members of the RPA leadership, only Hayk Mamijanyan received no votes against him, being elected with 520 votes in favor, while the others received some votes against them. Moreover, in an interview with "Iravunk," RPA Executive Body member Samvel Nikoyan stated that there will no longer be a position of First Deputy Chairman of the RPA, jokingly adding, "Simply, the position of First Deputy Chairman doesn’t suit our party." It should be noted that after the establishment of the position of First Deputy Chairman, it was held by former Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, followed by Vigen Sargsyan, the former of whom has since ceased to be a member of the party, while the latter has been studying in the United States for almost three years and has not returned."
