Another Ambassador to Be Recalled
Yesterday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recalled Artsakh Tumanyan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran. This had been reported months ago by "Hraparak", which had caused the ambassador's irritation.
Mr. Tumanyan turned 70 this year, and the recall could also be related to his age. He served as the first Deputy Foreign Minister from 1999 to 2000, is considered a protégé of Robert Kocharyan, and was the head of the second president's administration, as well as a former MP and head of the State Revenue Committee.
However, when he attempted to establish his own party, it provoked the ire of Robert Kocharyan, leading to his dismissal. In 2015, Serzh Sargsyan appointed him as the Armenian ambassador to Iran. Arsen Avagyan, who had previously served as the head of the neighboring countries department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed to replace Tumanyan. Our sources in the Ministry assure us that he is a prepared diplomat and will be able to navigate these complex times.
In the near future, the Armenian ambassador to Spain, Vladimir Karmirshalyan, will also be recalled. He is classified among inactive diplomats, not so much because there is particularly little to do in Spain, where previously only a consulate operated, but also due to his personality. He will be replaced by former MP and Soros affiliate Sos Avetisyan. Reports indicate that his agrément has already been sent.
