The Price of Fish Products in Armenia is Continuously Rising
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that the price of fish products in Armenia is continuously rising. This is reflected even in official statistics. The Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia recorded a 1.5% increase in the fish product market in August compared to July. The price of just the "Ishkhan" fish species has risen by 1.7%.
It is worth noting that one kilogram of "White Ishkhan," if available for sale, costs 2300 drams, while one kilogram of "Red Ishkhan" is sold for 2700 drams. But this is not all. It is set to rise even more in the near future. Fish breeders conveyed this to "Zhoghovurd" newspaper, citing water as the main reason.
The President of the Union of Fish Breeders of Armenia, Armen Buniatyan, stated in an interview with us that the increase in fish product prices is not only due to the rising cost of feed but also an increase in electricity tariffs for fish producers.
“These factors are minimal; now water prices are increasing too. We buy water from the state and then return it to the state through drainage for irrigation. Now they want to decide that we will also be obligated to pay 0.11 drams per cubic meter. We use a significant amount of water, and it is used continuously for 24 hours. Naturally, all this will lead to further price increases. We purchase feed entirely in euros and dollars, pay substantial amounts for electricity, and consume an enormous amount of power,” he added.
It is also worth mentioning that the only water supply operator in Armenia, "Veolia Jur", has applied to the Public Services Regulatory Commission with a request to increase water tariffs.
