Serviceman Wounded by Enemy Fire Undergoes Surgery, Kidney Removed
In the administrative area of the Kut community in the Gegharkunik province, a conscript serviceman, Arman Atesyan, was severely injured by enemy fire while on duty at a frontline position. The Chief of the Military Medical Department of the Armed Forces, Colonel Sahak Ohanyan, reported this to 1lurer.am.
“The large intestine, the small intestine were damaged, and the left kidney was removed. After an 8-hour surgery, he was transferred to the Central Clinical Hospital at 6 in the morning. The condition of two other servicemen is mild; they sustained gunshot wounds to their lower limbs, and appropriate medical assistance has been provided. We hope they will return to duty shortly,” he stated.
In response to the question of why the Ministry of Defense issued a statement indicating that the servicemen had sustained light gunshot wounds during intense gunfire that began due to another provocation from the Azerbaijani side when one was in extremely critical condition, Colonel Ohanyan explained: “That assessment was made very shortly after the injuries were sustained. In reality, each injury, if not fatal, assumes that the injured serviceman is adequate, is responding to questions, which allowed for that assessment. When they were transferred to the Gegharkunik hospital, specialists examined them and saw during the surgery that the condition was severe,” he said.
A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the incident by the Investigative Committee for the attempted murder of two or more persons by a group of individuals or an organized group motivated by national, racial, or religious hatred or fanaticism.
