VIDEO: What does Nikol Pashinyan propose to resolve the border issue?
Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan suggested during a meeting of the Security Council to ease the tension in the Armenia-Azerbaijan border situation by withdrawing both Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces from the Sotk-Khoznavar area to their permanent deployment sites and deploying international observers with the involvement of representatives from the Russian Federation or the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group.
This proposal was made by Pashinyan following his visit to the border areas of Kut village in the Gegharkunik province, where he familiarized himself with the situation. During the Security Council meeting attended by representatives of parliamentary factions, he shared his impressions and proposed a plan for resolution.
“If the situation remains unresolved, provocations may inevitably escalate into a large-scale clash. To prevent this, I propose a diplomatic resolution of the situation and make a public proposal directed at the international community and the authorities of Azerbaijan. The proposal is as follows: we agree that both sides' armed forces units quickly withdraw mirror-wise from the border. In general, representatives of armed forces return to their permanent deployment areas, while international observers are deployed in these areas with the involvement of Russia or the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group. After that, work on the clarification of border points can take place under international auspices,” said Pashinyan.
