Iran and Armenia Officials to Discuss Use of Armenian Route in North-South Corridor

Iran and Armenia will hold direct negotiations regarding the use of the Armenian route as part of the North-South corridor. This was announced by Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mohammad Eslami, ahead of his planned visit to Armenia, according to Mehr.

According to him, establishing extensive cooperation with countries around the world, especially neighboring states, is one of the main strategies of the Iranian government.

The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development is currently overseeing bilateral and multilateral negotiations and cooperation with other countries, emphasizing the development of trade, business, transport, and transit connections.

“According to the planned agenda, the officials of both countries, Iran and Armenia, will hold bilateral discussions on relevant issues,” Eslami stated.

“In addition to the presence of an Armenian community in Iran, there are fraternal and cultural ties between the two countries, therefore it is essential to ease the cultural interactions of the peoples and nations, and a stronger infrastructure needs to be established for the expansion of cargo and passenger transportation.”

He noted that the use of the Armenian route for part of the North-South corridor is one of the main issues that will be addressed by Iranian and Armenian officials during his visit.
