Greece's Acquisition of New Fighter Jets Disturbs Turkey

The Turkish press has been stirred by the agreement signed yesterday between Athens and Paris for the purchase of 18 Rafale fighter jets from France, reports ermenihaber.am.

Turkish media has highlighted the fact that the deal was signed while the next phase of Turkish-Greek negotiations, which were interrupted in 2016, was taking place in Istanbul. This circumstance has been labeled as a 'provocative move by Athens' by the Turkish press. However, it should be noted that negotiations regarding the aircraft deal between France and Greece began months ago.

According to information published in the Turkish media, France also intends to sell naval military equipment.

Additionally, the Turkish side, which does not particularly hide its ambitions for certain parts of Greece's territorial waters in the Aegean Sea, blames Greece for the heightened tensions in bilateral relations due to 'maximalist aspirations.'
