Armenia Prepares to Expand Agricultural Product Export Markets: Papoyan
The Minister of Economy of Armenia, Gevorg Papoyan, participated in the seventh meeting of the Council on Agricultural Industrial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Union in Almaty on August 13. The minister presented the current state of Armenia's agricultural sector and its development priorities, emphasizing the need for intensification of agriculture, increased productivity, introduction of modern technologies, and the development of digital agriculture.
He also addressed the expansion of processing capacities, the development of 'smart' farms, drip irrigation systems, and satellite monitoring systems for land.
On August 13, Papoyan also met with Akbar Fathi, the Deputy Minister of Agricultural Jihad of Iran. The parties discussed the possibilities of implementing joint projects in the agricultural sector.
Papoyan noted that there is significant potential for cooperation between Armenia and Iran in this field, particularly in plant growing, animal husbandry, processing of agricultural products, greenhouse operations, as well as the development of refrigeration and storage infrastructure.
Armenia is interested in expanding the presence of Armenian fruits and vegetables, processed products, dried fruits, and other food items in the Iranian market. The potential for supplying quality Iranian products to the Armenian market was also discussed.
Papoyan highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences in efficient irrigation and water-saving systems, as well as the digitalization of agriculture and increasing productivity.
