In the centers of Amsterdam and Eindhoven, police forces were compelled to use water cannons and batons to disperse the protesters. Tear gas was deployed in Eindhoven. Local residents are opposing government measures to combat the coronavirus, particularly the curfew that has been in effect since January 23.
The protesters used fireworks against law enforcement and attempted to build barricades. It has been reported that the protests were not authorized by the authorities. According to NOS, dispersing protesters in Eindhoven escalated into riots, with demonstrators setting vehicles on fire and looting stores.
Additionally, in the town of Urk, located 80 km from Amsterdam, protesters set fire to a mobile COVID-19 express testing center. The curfew will remain in effect until February 10. The police have already fined more than 3,600 individuals for violating the regime and arrested 25 people. As of the latest data, the number of infections in the country has reached 962,000.
