Drivers to Face Lighter Penalties for Smoking at the Wheel
The National Assembly is discussing a draft law on amendments and additions to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Armenia.
The second reading of the law was presented by Deputy Chief of Police Ara Fidanyan. The deputy chief specifically noted that after the first reading, an amendment proposed by Gevorg Gorgisyan, a member of the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction, was accepted. According to this amendment, instead of the originally proposed 1 penalty point for using tobacco products or tobacco product alternatives while driving a vehicle, a new standard of 0.5 points will be established, taking into account the relatively lower public danger of this act compared to similar actions by public transport drivers.
