Turks Have Arrived, Taking 12 Homes in Vorotan with Their Land Lots: Arush Arushanyan
Today, the enemy is already in the village of Vorotan, located in the enlarged community of Goris in the Syunik region. Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan stated in an interview with 168.am that the enemy is now attempting to take 12 homes in the Vorotan community.
“The danger we anticipated is the same. The Turks have come, and they are taking those 12 houses with their land lots. In other words, they are taking part of the village, and on one side will be the enemy, while the houses of the village population will be just a few meters away,” said Arush Arushanyan.
When asked if a representative from the Ministry of Defense is involved in the ongoing processes, he responded, “Let me say this: the only subject that has been present throughout all these processes is the first army corps; they have always been present. At this moment, I do not know whether they are on-site or not, but they have always been present everywhere.”
It seems that the events taking place in Vorotan and the information circulating in the press for several hours are not among the primary concerns of the Armenian government. When asked if anyone from the government is in Vorotan or if they have called to inquire about the ongoing developments, Arush Arushanyan replied briefly, “No.”
The mayor of Goris also announced that at this moment, Goris Deputy Mayor Menua Hovsepyan is on his way to Vorotan to familiarize himself with the situation on-site.
Recall that just last week, on December 24, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the delimitation works ongoing in Syunik during a government meeting, noting that border issues concerning Vorotan and Shurnukh could lead to certain painful situations. “We have two settlements that may raise certain questions. One relates to the Vorotan community and village in the Syunik region, and the other to the settlement of Shurnukh, where there are certain border issues. Daily work is ongoing regarding these issues, and they could lead to certain painful situations,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
