Armen Sarkissian Meets with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kopirkin to Discuss Signed Tripartite Statement
President Armen Sarkissian met today with Sergey Kopirkin, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia. The two discussed the statement signed by the Prime Minister of Armenia and the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan regarding the complete cessation of hostilities and all military operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
Sarkissian noted that the resolution of the Karabakh conflict is a matter of nationwide significance and importance, and it is natural that any decision related to it, especially the signing of any document, leads to sharp public reactions and often to resistance.
The President emphasized the crucial mediating role of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, particularly the Russian Federation, in stopping hostilities. The meeting underscored the necessity of security and sustainable peace throughout the entire region.
