Levon Aronian first defeated Iranian Alireza Firouzja with the black pieces, then beat Pyotr Svidler with the white pieces, and lastly, he won against Cuban Lenier Dominguez with black pieces in the final match of the day.
After these three consecutive victories, Aronian leads the tournament standings with 4.5 points. Today, Aronian will compete against reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen, former champion Garry Kasparov, and French player Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.
After 6 rounds, Wesley So, Hikaru Nakamura, and Magnus Carlsen trail Aronian by half a point. Dominguez has 3.5 points, while Karjakin holds 3 points. With 2 points, Kasparov and Svidler share the 7-8 places, and Vachier-Lagrave and Firouzja have 1.5 points. The total prize fund for the tournament amounts to 150,000 USD.
