Georgia's Authorities Detail What Awaits Saakashvili Upon His Return

The authorities of Georgia have expressed their satisfaction regarding the former President Mikheil Saakashvili's decision to return to his homeland. According to РИА Новости, this statement was made by the country’s Minister of Justice, Tea Tsulukiani.

“Of course, we welcome it if Mikheil Saakashvili finds the strength within himself and comes to Georgia; he will be arrested at the border and, of course, will be placed in a Georgian prison since he is wanted, and several guilty verdicts have been issued in his case,” the Georgian minister stated in a local television interview.

Earlier today, Saakashvili, who serves as the head of the Executive Committee of Ukraine's National Reform Council, announced his intention to return to Georgia. He has repeatedly commented on the upcoming parliamentary elections and made statements regarding the illegality of the actions of the current government.

Due to these statements, Georgia has recalled its ambassador from Kyiv, considering such comments to be an intervention in the country’s internal affairs.

Saakashvili left Georgia in 2013 when several criminal cases were initiated against him, and in absentia, he has been sentenced to prison in connection with several of these cases.
