Five Cases of Border Violation Revealed, Seven Violators Arrested by NSS
During the first half of 2020, the Border Guards of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia revealed 26 cases of border violations at the checkpoints of the state border, where individuals were using fake or unauthorized documents. Outside the checkpoints, five cases of border violations were uncovered, resulting in the arrest of seven violators, along with 25 other cases of border regime violations involving 56 individuals.
In the border troops, 10 criminal cases were initiated, of which eight were as a result of the implementation of preliminary operational information, and two were related to border violations. During the reporting period, a total of 367 individuals wanted by law enforcement were identified at state border checkpoints and handed over to the Armenian police in accordance with established procedures.
A border representation meeting was held with the Georgian side. Extensive work has been carried out to improve the working and living conditions of soldiers. In particular, a newly built border post and officer accommodation have been commissioned in the northern section of the state border, and a 5.5 km long border road significant for border security has been renovated.
In the southern section of the state border, capital construction and engineering works have commenced, which are expected to rehabilitate one border post, construct new officer accommodations, and improve the network of border roads along the entire length of the state border.
