Causes of Pig Deaths Identified as Anaerobic and Coccidial Infections: Food Safety Authority

Recently, three farms in the Akori community of Lori Province reported cases of animal deaths, specifically among pigs. The Veterinary Inspection Body of Armenia was not notified about this situation. However, in response to media reports, specialists from the regional center in Lori visited the mentioned farms in Akori village. During the visit, it was noted that three types of livestock—large cattle, small cattle, and pigs—were kept in one barn under very poor sanitary conditions. On the first day of the visit, 22 dead pigs were discovered.

As part of their monitoring functions, the necessary samples were taken to clarify the causes of death through laboratory examination. The community and the mentioned farms are under daily supervision by the Veterinary Inspection Body. Between January 27 and February 5, a total of 62 pigs were reported dead.

According to the results of the laboratory tests, the causes of the animals' deaths were found to be anaerobic and coccidial infections. The infected animals have been buried, and the farms have been isolated, with disinfection carried out in both burial and holding areas. Samples have also been taken from pig feed, and the results of these tests will be published once they are ready.
