Embezzlement Case Uncovered at 'Heratsi' Trade Union: NSS
The National Security Service of Armenia has appropriately initiated legal proceedings regarding various manifestations of corruption received from different state bodies, within the framework of its authority to combat crime. This follows the uncovering of cases of embezzlements committed by employees of the 'Yerevan State Medical University Named After Mkhitar Heratsi' foundation and the 'Heratsi' trade union.
During the preliminary investigation conducted by the NSS's investigative department regarding a criminal case launched on these matters, it has been revealed that embezzlement occurred through the forgery of official documents and the misuse of official position.
According to the information obtained, the head of the staff of the 'Yerevan State Medical University Named After Mkhitar Heratsi' foundation, in agreement with the head of the foundation's economic department, forged official documents between 2016 and 2018 to create a fictitious contract for the provision of paid services regarding the removal of waste accumulated in the hospital complex, on behalf of a person absent from the Republic of Armenia. Subsequently, they fabricated an act of acceptance of services that were not actually provided, through which significant sums of money were embezzled.
Sufficient evidence has been gathered to charge these two individuals under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The investigation is ongoing, and measures are being taken to identify all individuals involved in the commission of the crime in the remaining episodes, to clarify and recover the damage caused.
