Yerevan State University Rector's Deputy Orders Cancellation of 'Hraparak' Newspaper Delivery
The ‘Media Defender’ initiative has learned from press releases that Gegham Gevorgyan, the deputy of the Yerevan State University (YSU) rector, has ordered the cancellation of the delivery of the ‘Hraparak’ newspaper to YSU.
Gevorgyan is effectively creating a division within the Armenian media landscape and depriving YSU staff, students, and the ‘Hraparak’ newspaper of the opportunity to receive and disseminate information on equal terms.
This is a step taken against freedom of speech and the dissemination of information, which necessitates clarification and the restoration of the ‘Hraparak’ newspaper supply to the university. We call on the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport to remain consistent and warn the head of the educational institution under his jurisdiction to refrain from applying double standards.
